ThreadMapper Support

ThreadMapper reads your Thread devices through HomeKit, so it needs two things: HomeKit access must be granted (iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → HomeKit → ThreadMapper), and you need at least one Thread border router in your home — for example a HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, or a compatible hub. If you just want to explore the app, turn on Demo Mode in Settings.

iOS does not expose real radio RSSI for Thread accessories to third-party apps. ThreadMapper derives a response-quality estimate by timing how quickly each accessory replies. It is a reliable way to compare devices and rooms, but it is not a radio-measured dBm value — which is why the app labels it as estimated throughout.

In the Mesh tab, no — they are logical estimates: devices are linked to the nearest border router or a router in the same room.

Connecting an OpenThread Border Router gets you real network facts (name, channel, PAN ID) but not routing. Its diagnostics endpoints do not return per-node data — we tested them against a live mesh and the requests complete with nothing in them.

Real routing needs a ThreadMapper probe: a small agent on a Raspberry Pi that joins the mesh and reads the route table directly. With one connected, the Thread Network screen shows measured signal, link quality, next hop and path cost. Those nodes appear by Thread address rather than by your device names — nothing links a Thread address to a HomeKit accessory yet.

Open the Survey tab and choose Guided Survey. Stand in a room, tap Start, walk around while it samples, then tap Done to save that room and move to the next. If you have an Apple Watch, you can drive Start / Done / Skip from your wrist while the survey runs on your iPhone.

No. On iOS 26 and later they run entirely on device using Apple Intelligence. Nothing about your network leaves your iPhone. They require an Apple Intelligence–capable device.

Your device notes, Thread overrides and app settings — the things you typed or chose. It is off until you turn it on in Settings, and it uses your own private iCloud, so it never reaches us.

Signal history and survey measurements deliberately stay on the device that recorded them. A reading depends on where that device was standing, so merging an iPad in a drawer with an iPhone in your pocket would produce a history describing neither.

Open Settings in ThreadMapper and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account used for the original purchase.

The watch mirrors your iPhone. Open ThreadMapper on the iPhone at least once so it can send a snapshot, and make sure the watch app is installed in the Watch app on your iPhone.
